Semaglutide units to mg
Semaglutide mg = units ÷ 100 × concentration (mg/mL). 40 units is 0.4 mL: that's 1 mg at 2.5 mg/mL but 2 mg at 5 mg/mL. The concentration on your vial decides the answer.
Semaglutide units to mg table
Find the number of units you draw, then the column for your vial's concentration. Units are U-100 syringe units (100 units = 1 mL).
| Units drawn | 1 mg/mL | 2 mg/mL | 2.5 mg/mL | 5 mg/mL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 units | 0.05 | 0.1 | 0.125 | 0.25 |
| 10 units | 0.1 | 0.2 | 0.25 | 0.5 |
| 15 units | 0.15 | 0.3 | 0.375 | 0.75 |
| 20 units | 0.2 | 0.4 | 0.5 | 1 |
| 25 units | 0.25 | 0.5 | 0.625 | 1.25 |
| 30 units | 0.3 | 0.6 | 0.75 | 1.5 |
| 40 units | 0.4 | 0.8 | 1 | 2 |
| 50 units | 0.5 | 1 | 1.25 | 2.5 |
| 60 units | 0.6 | 1.2 | 1.5 | 3 |
| 80 units | 0.8 | 1.6 | 2 | 4 |
Why "how many mg is 40 units?" has four answers
A syringe unit is a volume: 0.01 mL. It says nothing about how much semaglutide is in that volume. Two people drawing 40 units each can get 1 mg and 2 mg if their vials differ. Answers online often assume one vial strength without saying so, which is why they contradict each other.
So the first step is always the label: find the mg/mL on your vial or pharmacy sticker. If it gives mg and mL separately (for example 5 mg in 2 mL), divide them: 5 ÷ 2 = 2.5 mg/mL.
Label doses in units
The Wegovy label increases the weekly dose every 4 weeks: 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, then 2.4 mg (maintenance). The Ozempic label starts at 0.25 mg for 4 weeks, then 0.5 mg, with increases to 1 mg and 2 mg if needed. Here are those doses in units for each concentration:
| Dose | 1 mg/mL | 2 mg/mL | 2.5 mg/mL | 5 mg/mL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 mg | 25 | 12.5 | 10 | 5 |
| 0.5 mg | 50 | 25 | 20 | 10 |
| 1 mg | 100 | 50 | 40 | 20 |
| 1.7 mg | 170 | 85 | 68 | 34 |
| 2 mg | 200 | 100 | 80 | 40 |
| 2.4 mg | 240 | 120 | 96 | 48 |
Greyed values are over 100 units (1 mL) and won't fit in one U-100 syringe. That dose isn't used with that vial strength; check your label.
Your prescriber may use a different schedule. Follow theirs; this table only converts.
The formula
mL = units ÷ 100 dose (mg) = mL × concentration (mg/mL) example: 40 units at 2.5 mg/mL → 0.4 mL × 2.5 = 1 mg
Going the other way (you know the mg and need units), use the mg to units calculator.
Questions
How many mg is 40 units of semaglutide?
40 units is 0.4 mL. At 1 mg/mL that's 0.4 mg; at 2 mg/mL, 0.8 mg; at 2.5 mg/mL, 1 mg; at 5 mg/mL, 2 mg.
20 units of semaglutide is how many mg?
20 units is 0.2 mL. At 1 mg/mL that's 0.2 mg; at 2 mg/mL, 0.4 mg; at 2.5 mg/mL, 0.5 mg; at 5 mg/mL, 1 mg.
How many units is 0.25 mg of semaglutide?
25 units at 1 mg/mL, 12.5 units at 2 mg/mL, 10 units at 2.5 mg/mL and 5 units at 5 mg/mL.
Do Ozempic or Wegovy pens use units?
No. The pens deliver a set dose in mg, and the pen's counter or clicks aren't syringe units. Units only apply when semaglutide is drawn from a vial with a U-100 syringe.
